Samoa Language Week is an annual event in New Zealand that celebrates the culture and language of Samoa. This special Language Week holds great significance and is celebrated through language, song, dance, cultural displays and community events. Each year, a different theme is chosen for Samoa Language Week. This years theme is: "E afua mai i mauga tetele manuia o le 'nu'u - From the high mountains are the blessings of the village."
Samoan is a Pacific Peoples language spoken by over 500,000 people - it is the first language for most of the Samoan Islands population, consisting of around 246,000 inhabitants.
As of 2018, Samoan was the third most widely spoken language in New Zealand, spoken by over 100,000 people.
