Green Sparks Day | Green Options for Bright Sparks
Green Sparks Day on Friday 27 February was an exciting and inspiring event that brought together students and teachers from primary, intermediate, and high schools at 黑料大事记 to explore sustainability in a meaningful and engaging way.
The day was designed to spark ideas and encourage young people to think about how they can make a positive impact on the environment. With many diverse workshops — including
Green Gorilla,
Zero Waste,
Climate Club Aotearoa,
Eco Matters,
Love Food Hate Waste and the
Blake Foundation, students had the opportunity to dive into real world issues like climate change, conservation, and eco-friendly living through hands-on learning and collaboration.
A standout moment of the day was the inspiring talk from the keynote speaker
Ethically Kate, who shared how it is possible to live a lifestyle that is both social and sustainable. She offered practical advice on reducing waste and showed how small, everyday choices can make a big difference. Her confident and thoughtful responses to students’ questions made the session both engaging and empowering, leaving many feeling motivated to take action.
The workshops were a major highlight, offering interactive and creative experiences that made learning both fun and memorable. The workshop through Sophora from NZ Ethnic Women’s trust for example, where students took part in a hands-on clay activity, focusing on creating their own small sculptures. This activity was not only enjoyable but also encouraged creativity while thinking about cultivating sustainable living and communities. Overall, Green Sparks Day successfully combined education with enjoyment, leaving students inspired, informed, and ready to make a difference in their own communities.
Overall, it was a memorable experience that showed how small actions can lead to big change — and it’s definitely an event worth signing up to for next year!

VEX Robotics National Championships 2026
The largest robotics competition in New Zealand for High School and Middle School were held at Onehunga High School on Saturday 21st and Sunday 22nd February.
黑料大事记 had 32 students in six High School teams and one Middle School team competing in the various titles over the weekend. By lunchtime on Sunday, Lynfield teams were ranked 1st, 6th, 15th, 50th, 52nd and 68th out of 72 High School teams and 4th out of 9 Middle School teams. Unfortuneately the Middle school team was knocked out in their first round of finals competition, but it was a great tournament for them. Four of our High School teams made it to the elimination rounds with two making it to the semi-finals, where unfortunately our teams faced each other.
Team 2915V won the semi final and proceeded to the final where they won the NZ National Championship tournament. They also won the Robot Skills competition which is a combination of autonomous programming points and driver control points. House Sports Day 2026
The House Captains had worked hard to involve all students in the presentation of their House Mascot. They really let their creativity flow and came up with some interesting ideas to impress the judges.
With a rotation of twelve 15 minute events in the morning students tugged, ran, jumped, threw and scrambled to gain points for their house. Teachers were also given bonus point incentives to take part in events and it was awesome to see them taking part in so many activities.
Congratulations to overall winners, Lewis House who discovered participation was the key to success as the whole house ran, threw or jumped to the max!
Special thanks to our PE Department and event organisers, Mr Waddington for providing the sound system, Ms van Niekerk and her team for providing morning tea for the staff while they were all out supporting their houses and Mr Dye for all his help and expertise in organising the event.
